Botanical Name: 
Olea europaea

A native to the Mediterranean, Asia and parts of Africa.  Leaves are opposite, simple, oblong to lanceolate, 1/2" to 4" long, 1/2" to 1 1/2" wide.  They are medium green above, gray-green beneath.  Trunk is gray and furrowed becoming gnarled with age.  Fruit is a small oval, 1/2" to 1" long, green, ripening to a rich purple.   The fruit is considered a drupe, or stone fruit.  The fruiting varieties that we carry include 'Arbequina' and 'Frantonio'.  We also carry the variety  'Wilson', which is fruitless.

Most olive trees are hardy to 15 degrees F. Grayish foliage serves as an interesting accent in any landscape.  The fruitless variety is popular as a patio tree.
