Description
Botanical Name: 
Quercus muehlenbergii

A native to the central and eastern U.S.  Leaves are shiny yellow-green above, whitish underneath.  Alternate, simple, 4" to 6 1/2" long, half as wide, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, usally rounded at base, coarsley toothed.  Bark is rough and flaky, ash-gray in color.  Egg-shaped, edible, 1/2" to 1" acorns are enclosed by 1/4 to 1/2 inch, warty cap. Growth rate is medium, slowing down with age.
