Tangy, colorful leaves and stems are an excellent cooked vegetable for summer and a tremendous source of vitamins. Tolerant of hot weather and extremely easy to grow. Chard is a green leafed vegetable that makes a good alternative to spinach.  Stalks grow vertically from the crown of the plant, each stalk ending in a broad leaf blade.
